Definition:
Fiction is a retelling of imaginary events, as opposed to "real" ones. The term refers to prose narrative (short story, novella, or novel).
Fiction may incorporate elements from real life, as in the case of autobiographical fiction. The line between fiction and nonfiction then begins to blur or to become indistinct. Norman Mailer used "faction" to refer to works that are on the blurred fiction/nonfiction line.
